It’s been awhile since I posted about our travels. I really want to document them so I’ll start again. John and I are going to our annual Europe trip with the SWA group. We’re spending 4 nights in Madrid before meeting the group in Malaga.
We flew from Madrid on Friday, 1/24/20, at 4:45pm from DFW. It was a 9-hour direct flight , which was great. Not so great was that I couldn’t sleep…even after taking 2 melatonins. It just didn’t work for me. So, by the time we arrived in Madrid at 8:45am, I was exhausted. Luckily, the hotel was able to check us in and give us a room where I proceeded to take a long 3-hour nap. We’re staying at the Westin Palace Madrid Hotel. It was built in 1912 and it’s beautiful.
We woke up from a nap to take our first tour in Madrid with Sandeman’s free walking tour. Sebastian was an awesome guide. We learned a bunch of history and it was great to get situated and know where some of the places to go. It was a damp and rainy day, but that didn’t deter us. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take as many pictures. It’s hard to take a picture and carry an umbrella at the same time. But below are a few.
After the tour, we walked down a side road and ate at a restaurant. I can’t remember the name but it was an awesome deal. John and I each had a 2-course meal and it included a bottle of house wine. It was authentic Madrid fare. I had paella for my first course and calamari for my second course. Our dinner was only €25 and that included the wine.
After dinner, we were back at our hotel and was asleep by 8pm.
