We left Wyoming and made it to South Dakota. It took about 4 days to get from Jackson Hole, WY to Custer, SD. It's only about 500 miles from Jackson Hole to Custer, but we try not to drive more than 3 hours a day. We don't mind because it gives us the opportunity to experience new places. Also, I haven't learned how to drive the truck towing the BAT Cave yet so John is still doing all the driving. It puts less stress on him when we don't drive too long.
The drive from Jackson Hole to Custer wasn't really eventful. We drove through some pretty scenery and a whole lot of nothingness. As soon as we crossed the border to South Dakota, though, the trees were back and it lifted our spirits again. We spent the next 2 nights at Custer Crazy Horse Campground in Custer, SD.

I love when there are trees and beauty everywhere.

It's easy to fall asleep when driving through this!

We're still on the agenda to visit every national park in the U.S. and Wind Cave National Park was only 20 miles away. It cost $10 to take the guided tour through the cave with a park ranger and it's only about 1 1/2 hours long. I highly recommend touring the cave. It's different from other caves because there are no stalagmites or stalactites. Instead, on the ceiling are unique formations called boxwork, which is made of thin blades of calcite that project from cave walls and ceilings, forming a honeycomb pattern.
